The year 2025, and the ones that shortly preceded it, have been absolutely diabolical, as the kids would say, for the standards of what’s considered “successful”, sustainable, and generally recommended for the long-term health of our gender and our responsibility with the future of the family structure.
A part of me believes that the monumental change is the expected next step at a macro level for the recovery of our communities, societies, and overall globe. The planet is depleted, corruption abounds around every corner, and humans are becoming increasingly desensitized to the chaos in the world around them, spending more time alone than ever before.
Maybe reproducing on a mass scale isn’t the correct answer anymore? Perhaps the mental, physical and emotional resources that women can offer would be better utilized for other pursuits?
From a personal perspective, the thought does still cross my mind (at the somewhat still childbearing age of 39) about procreating my own biological children. However, the factors taken into consideration today, compared to how things stood when I was in my mid-twenties to mid-thirties, have drastically changed. Manners of meeting new people, revised financial values, and biological transitions have all contributed to a new outlook on this aspect of life.
That doesn’t, however, mean that I haven’t felt fulfilled as far as my womanly needs for nurturing are concerned. It took some time to consciously identify all the sources that could be meeting this need in my life, as well as in the lives of other women whose lives may be similar. Below is what I both already knew and learned.
WHAT WOMEN ARE CREATING AND NURTURING TODAY
Ourselves.
It always starts with us. Regardless of whether you are currently a mother raising a family or single, investing in yourself and reaching a healthy, functioning level before meeting anyone else’s needs is always the healthiest approach.
Despite everyone’s self-nurturing practices differing, it seems that in 2025, women are waking up to the fact that we must prioritize ourselves first for things to go as planned. Whether it’s through maintaining a consistent exercise and healthy diet routine, nurturing close female relationships, or pursuing creative endeavours, women and girls in 2025 are ensuring their cups are filled first.
Partners and other immediate family.
Whether it’s offering support to elderly parents, assisting your siblings with their children, or supporting a romantic partner with a demanding career, there are numerous ways that we, as women, can and do offer care to those we love regularly.
Friendships.
Friendships, both old and new, require time, effort, and consistent connection. Strong friendships inevitably turn into family. So, beyond motherhood, sustaining lifelong friendships is a fantastic outlet for nurturing and care.
Creative pursuits.
Creating art in any form and sharing it with the world is never a mistake. It’s rarely about a monetary return on investment of any kind but rather about getting into a flow state for our own benefit, as well as fulfilling the profoundly human need to create.
Pets / Nature / Animals.
Our fur babies fill up our cups in their own special way. We may not have birthed them, but we certainly raise and nurture them daily, which makes them perfectly respectable and equal contributors to maternal fulfillment.
Gardening, farming, cleaning up the environment, or raising any other kind of animals also contribute to this need.
Careers and Entrepreneurship.
If you lead a team at work, have started a business, or are focused on advancing the corporate ladder, nurturing the relationships, knowledge, and skills required can offer women immense feelings of fulfillment.
However, alignment in this area is key. We have all been in work situations where the experience was not a match for us. As long as your chosen career aligns with your true calling, you are well on your way to creating and growing something worthwhile.
